While I sympathize with the frustration, this aspect is well-documented — http://www.groovy-lang.org/syntax.html#_gstring_and_string_hashcodes. So, the conclusion should not be don’t use groovy. Instead, it should be don’t use groovy with undue assumptions/expectations stemming from your knowledge of other languages (based on my recent incident with Groovy involving closures and method resolution).
